Privacy Policy

Mamma Mafia is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] (ABN [ABN]), referred to in this policy as “we”, “us” and “our”. We run a digital sisterhood and community platform for women, available at mammamafia.org and through our mobile applications.

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who can see it, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it.

We have tried to write it in plain language. If anything here is unclear, please ask us.

Mamma Mafia is intended for women aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we hold information about someone under 18, contact us and we will delete it.

Information you give us. Your name, email address, mobile number, suburb, state and postcode. Anything you choose to add to your profile. Anything you post, write or send, including messages, Knocks, posts, response preferences such as Witness Me, notes, photographs, business listings and Come With Me invitations. This also includes information you choose to add to private features such as My Covenant, Quiet Mode and Introduce Me.

Birthday preferences. If you choose birthday treats, we store your birthday day and month, chosen time zone and email/in-app preferences separately from your public profile. We do not request your birth year. We use these details to issue the paid-member merchandise treat and one unused-offer reminder. You can turn either channel off, unsubscribe from birthday emails without signing in, or remove your saved birthday details in Profile. Issued offer, delivery and purchase records are kept separately to honour offers and prevent duplicate use.

Information we collect automatically. Device and browser information, approximate location, how you use the app, and log data such as access times and error reports.

Location information. See the separate section below, because it works differently from everything else here.

Health information. See the separate section below. Health information receives stronger protection under Australian law and we treat it differently.

Payment information. Purchases are processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of the transaction and your subscription status. We never see or store your full card number.

Analytics and beta learning. We use limited operational and analytics information to understand whether the app is working and where women get stuck. During a small beta, selected participants may also choose to send a beta note. Our beta observatory uses narrow journey signals such as onboarding completion, whether a first message or Knock was sent, Come With Me activity, introductions, Gatherings and Quiet Mode. It does not read private message or Knock content, My Covenant entries, My Road reflection answers or exact location.

We use your information to create and manage your account, provide the service, process payments and subscriptions, deliver your Daily Returns and notifications, run community features such as local event rooms, messaging, Come With Me, After the Gathering and Introduce Me, improve the experience during beta and beyond, respond when you contact us, keep the community safe, and meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers.

This is the part most privacy policies leave out, so we want to be clear about it.

Mamma Mafia is a community. Some of what you provide is visible to other members by design.

Visible to other members: your first name and any profile details you choose to add, anything you post in the Feed or a Sister Circle, the response preference you attach to a post such as Witness Me or Advice Welcome, any business listing you create in Sister Economy, your presence on the Sister Map if you have turned it on, and the general area, time and note you choose to include in a Come With Me invitation.

Visible only to you: your email address, your mobile number, your full address details, your payment information, your private notes, your My Covenant entries and any private note you write when using Quiet Mode.

Visible to the women you choose: private messages and Knocks you send to another member, and anything you share with My Few. If you use Introduce Me, a potential introduction initially sees only the interests you have in common, not your identity. Your profile is revealed only if both women say yes. If you attend a Gathering, other women recorded as attending the same Gathering may be shown your basic profile through After the Gathering so either of you can choose whether to reconnect.

You decide how much to share. You can change what appears on your profile at any time, and you can remove anything you have posted.

If you delete your account, your profile, posts, listings, Come With Me invitations, introduction preferences, My Covenant entries and map presence are removed from the active service. Direct messages involving your account are also removed from the active service. We cannot remove screenshots or copies another person may have saved outside Mamma Mafia.

We take this seriously. Some women come to Mamma Mafia while leaving difficult situations, and being findable is not a small thing.

The Sister Map is off until you turn it on. If you never turn it on, you do not appear on it.

When it is on, we show an approximate area, not your exact position. Other members can see roughly where you are, at [SUBURB / X KM RADIUS] level. We do not show your address, and we do not show your live position.

You can turn it off at any time. Quiet Mode also temporarily removes you from Sister Map discovery while it is active.

Saving an exact pin is separate from area discovery. If you choose to save a pin, we store your device’s precise latitude and longitude for that pin. Saving it does not turn area discovery on. You can allow other women to request access to the exact pin; its precise coordinates are shown to another woman only after you approve her request. You can remove the saved pin without deleting your profile.

We also collect approximate location separately from the map, to show you chapters and gatherings near you. That information is not shown to other members.

You can refuse location permission entirely and still use Mamma Mafia. Some features will simply show you less.

Come With Me does not require you to publish your live or precise location. You type the general area you want other members to see. We encourage members to confirm an exact meeting point privately only after choosing to connect.

My Body is educational. It offers prompts, a guide for talking to your doctor, and worksheets.

Anything you record in My Body stays on your device. We do not receive it, we do not store it, and we cannot see it. If you delete the app, that information goes with it, so please keep your own copy of anything you want to keep.

Because we do not collect it, we cannot restore it, and we cannot provide it to anyone else, including if we were compelled to.

My Body is not medical advice, a diagnosis, or a substitute for professional healthcare. Always speak with a qualified clinician about your health.

Service providers who help us run the platform: payment processing, email delivery, hosting and analytics. They may only use your information to provide that service to us.

When the law requires it, or in response to a valid legal process.

To protect people. If we reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent serious harm to you or to someone else.

We may use aggregated, de-identified information to understand and improve the service. That information cannot identify you.

Your information may be stored and processed in Australia and in the United States, including by [NAMED PROVIDERS].

Before disclosing your information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient handles it consistently with Australian privacy law.

You can delete your account at any time, from inside the app: [Settings › Account › Delete account]. You can also ask us at hello@mammamafia.org and we will do it for you.

When you delete your account, we remove your profile, posts, listings, Come With Me invitations, Introduce Me preferences and pair records, private notes, My Covenant entries, map presence, beta participation record, beta journey signals and voluntary beta feedback. We complete this within [X DAYS].

We keep only what we are legally required to keep, which is [e.g. transaction records for tax purposes]. Nothing we keep is used to contact you or shown to anyone else.

You do not have to tell us why, and we will not ask.

Whatever country you are in, you can:

• See the personal information we hold about you
• Correct anything that is wrong
• Delete your account and your information
• Take your information with you in a portable format
• Object to or restrict how we use it
• Withdraw consent at any time, including for marketing and for location

To do any of these, contact us at hello@mammamafia.org. We will respond within [X DAYS] and in any case within the time the law allows.

We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.

We only send you marketing emails if you have asked us to. Every one has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not affect your membership.

We will only text you about things you have specifically signed up for, such as a gathering you have said yes to.

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No system is completely secure, and we will not pretend otherwise.

If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell us first at hello@mammamafia.org. We will acknowledge your complaint within [X DAYS] and respond within [X DAYS].
